Tallahassee, Florida, is about two and a half hours from Jacksonville. So, many Jacksonville Jaguars fans are Florida State fans, and a lot of them are Florida Gator fans, but that's a different story. So, some Jaguars fans are very familiar with their newest player.
In the first two rounds, the Jaguars drafted two LSU players, wide receiver Brian Thomas and defensive tackle Maason Smith. FSU played them in Week 1 of the 2023-24 college football season, so they are familiar with those guys as well.
In the third round, the Jaguars had one more major need to tackle: cornerback, more specifically, nickel. They drafted Florida State nickel Jarrian Jones with the 96th overall pick.
After having Darious Williams go back to the Los Angeles Rams in free agency this offseason, the Jaguars desperately needed more help in their secondary. And, even with Jones now in town, they may not stop there in the draft.
Jones is good and, to me, their best-valued pick in the draft. However, they have more needs there. As things currently stand, Tyson Campbell is the only player who has solidified himself as a solid starter. They still need more.
But, the pick was good, especially at 96.
